Are all these concepts not vague, and any definition of them contestable? As human beings we identify with some groups, and take distance from others. Our thoughts are shaped by our identities. Our actions and symbols are extensions of our thoughts.
MIRROR juxtaposes the dualistic world view of Plato’s Cave, with the holistic frame of reference of Zhuangzi’s Butterfly Dream, where even life and death are relative. Europe and Asia are sources of inspiration for both surprise and familiarity.
The paradox of culture is that no human being can be described as the sum of patterns, yet we are all formatted in patterns. To be able to understand and even see ourselves, we need to see difference. Only by recognizing difference can we see ourselves.
